The Catawba County Breast Cancer Coalition (CCBCC) is working with the American Cancer Society (ACS) to improve the existing Catawba County ACS Wig Bank. The wig bank provides wigs and head comverings for women who cannot afford to purchase a wig. Currently, the wig bank is located in a closet in the Cancer Resource Center at Catawba Valley Medical Center. The only private place for cancer patients to try on wigs is a small restroom. The wig selection is limited and the display area is virtually nonexistent.
Modeling the Wig Bank of Caldwell County, we would like to provide both a better selection of wigs and a more inviting environment for our cancer patients to visit. We need a different location and funds to purchase more wigs and create an attractive display area. To accomplish this, the ACS and the CCBCC felt that a board was needed to address our issues. The expectations of the board would be to:
- Meet monthly
- Find possible location for the wig bank
- Help find volunteers to man the wig bank
- Locate funding by either holding a yearly fundraiser or other means of support
Please help us better serve our patients by joining our board, volunteering your time to man the bank or locate funding. For more information on becomming a board member or volunteering for this much needed outreach organization, please call Peggy Messick, RN at 828-326-3127.
