WRC 2006 Spring Fundraiser A Success

Photo:  Merry BooneHickory, NC — On Tuedsay, May 2, 2006 Women’s Resource Center hosted their annual Spring Dinner at Park Inn in Hickory. The theme for the evening was “Women: Builders of Communities and Dreams,” and raised over $23,000 for the Center. This year’s dinner was sponsored by Health and Home Services, Print Focus, Hickory Metro Higher Education Center, Catawba Valley Medical Center, Frye Regional Medical Center-Women’s Pavilion, Graystone Ophthalmology, Lyndon R. Helton, PLLC, Commscope, People’s Bank, Sophie Magazine and BB & T.

A special highlight of the evening was the awarding of the WRC Spirit Award given annually to a person who individually embodies the mission and spirit of Women’s Resource Center. This year’s recipient is Merry Boone, Past President of WRC Board of Directors. Each year’s recipient has their name added to the Spirit Award plaque as a reminder of their great accomplishments.

WRC Announces Winner of Great Women Essay Contest

Hickory, NC-Women’s Resource Center announced Chelsea Green as the winner of it’s Great Women Essay Contest on Tuesday, May 2nd at the 2006 WRC Spring Dinner. Chelsea is in 4th grade at Forest Hill Elementary School in Morganton.

The essay contest was for students in grades 4, 5 and 6 in the Unifour area and was meant to help draw awareness Women’s History Month throughout the month of March. The theme was “Women: Builders of Communities and Dreams.” The theme helps celebrate women who have brought communities together and restored hope in the face of impossible odds.

Children were asked to create a literary essay no longer than 500 words about a woman in history who has made an impact on their life. Renowned women in history or women in their lives, whom students have developed a personal connection with, were also allowed in the essay.

WRC Offers Gourmet Cooking Demonstration

Photo of Chef Eddy WessonHickory, NC – Women’s Resource Center in conjunction with Lenoir Rhyne College will offer a Gourmet Cooking Demonstration on Friday, May 19, 2006 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Co-sponsored by Aramark Dining Services, the demonstration will be held at Bear’s Lair on LR Campus. While you dine, you will be educated and entertained by Chef Eddie Wesson, Catering Manager of Aramark Campus Dining Services. Learn cooking techniques from a professional chef as Chef Wesson demonstrates how the menu is prepared.
