August 26, 2005 is the 85th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution which gave women the right to vote. It took 72 years for women to win the right to vote. The Catawba Valley League of Women’s Voters will be registering people to vote from 11:00am until 1:00pm and again from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. Women and their families are encouraged to stop by Women’s Resource Center on Friday, August 26, 2005 to enjoy lemonade, cookies, and take part in our celebration.
Attendees are encouraged to take WRC’s Equality Day quiz. Quizzes can be found at the Center and on our website at www.wrchickory.org. All returned quizzes will be entered into a drawing for a Cafe 2Forty2 gift certificate. The winner will be announced on Monday, August 29, 2005 by phone and our website.

HICKORY, NC - Women’s Resource Center (WRC) will hold two separate volunteer training sessions on Tuesday, August 16 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and Tuesday, August 23 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The trainings will be held at WRC, located at 125 3rd Street NE in Hickory. Those interested in volunteering with Women’s Resource Center are encouraged to attend. It is not necessary to attend both trainings, and refreshments will be provided. WRC is looking for female and male volunteers who are at least 16 years of age and have their own transportation. Contact the Center for more information or to register.
Volunteers are needed in the morning, afternoons, and some weekends. Volunteer opportunities include: office assistance, client in-take, crisis pantry maintenance, special events coordination, Women2Work clothing closet, and working booths at fairs/festivals. Client in-take and resource/referral volunteers must be female.
