Women's Resource Center Celebrates Equality Day This year, on Tuesday, August 26th, Women's Resource Center invites you to join its staff and volunteers as we celebrate an historic day, the 88th anniversary of the Women’s Suffrage Amendment to the US Constitution. The 72 year long campaign began in Seneca Falls, NY in 1848 and ended in victory when the 19th Amendment was ratified by Congress on August 26th, 1920 securing full voting rights for the nation’s women. It reads, “The rights of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex”. The community is welcome to visit the center and register to vote. WRC encourages all citizens to support the candidates and exercise their right to vote by getting to the polls for the November election. You can learn more about the 19th Amendment and Equality Day by visiting The National Women’s History Project at http://www.nwhp.org/ or the North Carolina League of Women Voters website: www.lwvnc.org.
